Chapter 7: A Texas Scorcher: Finding a “Fingerprint” in a Frontal Sinus

Dr. Bass and his colleague had to piece together a murder victim’s skull. The murder thought he could destroy the body by burning it, but this rarely actually destroys the body. However, the crime lab retained some skeletal material in the forensic lab. They were able to send Dr. Bass half a mandible and the teeth associated with it, as well as over a hundred skeletal fragments. He was able to put together a frontal bone which contains the frontal sinus. Dr. Bass could then compare the frontal sinus he built to X-rays of the victim taken before he died. The package from the forensic lab also contained wisdom teeth which were used to compare with the X-ray. Dr. Bass solved the mystery of who was burned in their car in a possible insurance fraud case.
