General FAQ:

Q: Can I reserve spots for my school group?

A: Yes, you can reserve up to 25 spots. Please contact eyhnd@nd.edu

Q: Why is there a need for special conferences focused on women and underserved minorities in STEM?

A: The 2000 Congressional Commission on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering, and Technology Development (CAWMSET) stated, “Today’s U.S. economy depends more than ever on the talents of skilled, high-tech workers. To sustain America’s preeminence we must take drastic steps to change the way we develop our workforce. An increasingly large proportion of the workforce consists of women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities- groups not well represented in science, engineering, and technology (SET) fields.” Furthermore, our whole nation profits when women have the same opportunities as their male counterparts.

Q: What type of workshops are held?

A: Each EYH conference features a variety of hands-on activities. These are the “bread and butter” of every Expanding Your Horizons event. At EYH conferences middle schoolers participate in fun and challenging hands-on math, science and engineering activities led by career women and allies.

Through these important hands-on workshops, middle schoolers learn that studying math and science can be fun! They participate in exciting experiments and the importance of learning. Because local volunteers lead workshops, participants meet with mathematicians, engineers, and scientists who live and work in their own communities, who serve as role models at the conference, and who may serve as possible mentors in the future.

Q: What grade levels are eligible to attend?

A: Students in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade are eligible to attend EYH Notre Dame.
