PEMCO’s Next to Normal

Described as a pulsing rock score by Director Charlie O’Leary, the Pasquerilla East Musical Company (PEMCO) choosesNext to Normal as their fall 2012 show.

Next to Normal combines catchy and tuneful music with startling real-world issues, but above all, the show is about a small group of funny, bright, and engaging people and their relationships. Watching their attempts to hurt and heal one another–their struggles to love and to be loved–are the core experience of Next to Normal.

Next to Normal tells the story of a seemingly typical American family dealing with an illness that’s becoming increasingly common: bipolar disorder. With a pulsing rock score, Next to Normal pushes the realm of subject matter for musical theatre. Because of this, we are partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Notre Dame, to allow audiences to raise awareness and to further engage with the show and the questions it raises.

The best part of producing the show is really seeing it all come together said Producer Nathan Williams. Nathan went on to say, “I know it’s a huge cliche, but it’s really amazing to see an idea we came up with all the way back in April come to life. And it really is a matter of getting the best people we can involved. I can really say these are the best people, the directors, the actors, the designers, and the technicians, because not only do they have the chops, they have the passion. After we found them, it was really a matter of letting them do their thing.”

Showings will take place on Thursday, 10.25, Friday, 10.26, and Saturday, 10.27 at 7:30 Pm at Washington Hall mainstage.
