By Rocky Stroud II, Take Ten Volunteer and AmeriCorps Member for Take Ten
Upon beginning Take Ten, my views on youth violence and conflict resolution narrowed to girl gossip and cyber bullying. After entering the local schools, I came to realize that youth violence is more prevalent than I originally thought. While talking with students, I have heard of instances where in their minds they “need” to fight. I am hopeful that my teachings and Take Ten will help lower some of these situations, so that violence prevention can be achieved. However, I feel that the will of the students will in the end determine whether or not violence is prevented.
Take Ten has opened my eyes to a world in which violence exists but that violence can be prevented. By entering our local schools, our team strives to eliminate violence. In many cases, I can tell that our students are being receptive of our message.
