Students can have a positive change on community

By Amy Porter, Take Ten Volunteer and Seminar Student

If my students could only take one thing away from Take Ten, I would want it to be the realization that they have the power and ability to create a positive change in their community. All Take Ten students have the ability to use the tools they’ve gained from Take Ten to start making positive decisions at home, in school, and within the community. They can rise as leaders to direct a community movement towards non-violence or simply be a role model for peers in school. I want my students to realize that although it may seem like they, as individuals, cannot make a big difference, collectively, they can be the spark that makes a huge difference. The shift towards non-violence has to start somewhere, from someone, and Take Ten students are sufficiently prepared to start it. They just have to realize this first.
