These buildings, known as the Esposizione Universale Roma (EUR), were meant to represent Mussolini's fascist alternative to classical Rome. They were constructed between 1938 and 1941 in anticipation of the 1942 World's Fair. The fair was not held and the project was never completed due to the outbreak of WWII.
