Constitution of the Africa Graduate Club of Notre Dame (AGC)
PREAMBLE
The Africa Graduate Club of Notre Dame is a graduate student club open to Africans and anyone who identifies as African, with a deep desire to contribute or make a positive impact on the African community in Notre Dame and the African Continent. This platform will also bring together stakeholders interested in fostering a collaboration between Africans affiliated with the University and other interested organizations to enhance the link between the African continent to the University.
Through our activities, the platform will seek to:
- Improve the social and professional experience of African students on campus
- Increase awareness of Notre Dame offerings to prospective African students
- Establish a relationship with other African student clubs at similar schools
- Establish a network of African Alumni, students and staff of the university
Article I: NAME
The name of the club shall be the “Africa Graduate Club of Notre Dame”, herein referred to as “AGC” or “the Club”.
Article II: PURPOSE
Our vision is to deepen Notre Dame’s impact on the African continent, enhance collaboration amongst our stakeholders and extend Africa focused initiatives in business, global affairs and academia.
Our mission is to carry on the “force for good” mission through initiatives that inspire and sustain knowledge, research, innovation and business that positively impact our Africa.
We will accomplish this by providing our members and community with an enabling platform, relevant tools and information in three focus areas: ND Africa Student Initiatives (NASI), African Alumni Acts (AAA) and ND Africa Connects (NAC).
ND Africa Student Initiatives (NASI):
The AGC is established to create a platform that actively engages with and supports African students within the Notre Dame student: This platform will aim to:
- Enhance the experience of African students by providing support throughout the students’ experience journey from recruitment to graduation.
- Organize networking activities for African students and professors, and support future collaborations between these stakeholders
- Collaborate with Notre Dame administrative offices focused on international development to increase their projects and engagement in Africa
- Encourage faculty to include case studies on African Organizations and Projects in curriculum
- Provide academic and social support to members of the AGC.
Africa Alumni Acts (AAA):
The AGC is expressly established to:
- Strengthen and extend the impact of our Africa alumni networks by acting as a conduit for proposed students, existing students and alumni
- Support existing and future African alumni network initiatives and collaboration efforts with the University
ND Africa Connects (NAC):
Our annual conference, The Africa “Force for Good” conference, will be the main event held once a year with a theme determined by the existing club executives. The main goals of the conference is to foster conversations about Africa’s role and interactions with the world as it relates to “service to humanity” and our actions as a “force for good” on the African continent. The conference, as well as other initiatives such as our speaker series, will provide an avenue for the broader community of young professionals interested in the development of Africa and those with affiliation to Africa to start and continue impactful conversations.
The AGC is expressly established to:
- Facilitate conversations on issues related to Africa with the aim of creating awareness and opportunities for engagement.
- Develop an outward-looking perspective that goes beyond Notre Dame and seeks to participate in developing innovative solutions to solve complex problems in Africa.
- Collaborate with Institutes and Organizations at the University of Notre Dame to bring distinguished speakers from the continent to the University of Notre Dame.
- Establish relationships with Africa-centered organizations such as the Corporate Council on Africa and Chambers of Commerce of African Countries to facilitate opportunities for students interested in working or launching entrepreneurial ventures in Africa.
- Collaborate with sister clubs to establish and facilitate networking opportunities for members.
- We will educate our student body and the wider community about the immense opportunities that exist in Africa.
