Chapter 14: Leoma Patterson, Part 2: Putting a Face on the Dead

This chapter introduces a forensic artist named Joanna Hughes. Joanna specializes in adding the soft tissue on a skull that aims to recreate a person’s past appearance. Dr. Bass asks her to do a reconstruction using the skull in Chapter 12 of Maybe-Leoma. When the reconstruction was complete, there were mixed results among Leoma’s children: some thought it looked like their mother and others thought the complete opposite. A CT scan was taken of the skull and was superimposed on a picture of Leoma Patterson. Many people thought the skull was a match. This made Dr. Bass think the DNA test was incorrect and to keep searching for answers.
