I explore the physiological and behavioral mechanisms necessary to cope with and adapt to extreme climate and physical activity through a number of different projects:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Developing the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/cara-ocobock\/research\/national-outdoor-leadership-school\/\">Allocation and Interaction Model<\/a> for better predicting human energy expenditure in a variety of environments.<\/li>\n<li>Following <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/cara-ocobock\/research\/race-across-the-usa\/\">endurance runners<\/a> in a cross-country foot race.<\/li>\n<li>Assessing cold adaptations among <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/cara-ocobock\/research\/reindeer-herders-in-finland\/\">reindeer herders<\/a> in Finland.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I direct the Human Energetics Laboratory at the University Notre Dame whereI integrate human biology and anthropology, with a focus on the interaction between anatomy, physiology, evolution, and the environment.
