General Information<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Over a semester there are typically two weekend trips to the\u00a0Red River Gorge<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Kentucky where we camp at\u00a0Miguel’s Pizza<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(pictured). During the winter months there may be trips to climbing gyms nearby. In the past we’ve gone to\u00a0Vertical Endeavors<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Chicago,\u00a0Hoosier Heights<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Indianapolis, and Peabody Ice Climbing<\/strong><\/a> in Michigan. Officers and involved members typically take personal fall break trips to places like\u00a0Shelf Road<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Colorado,\u00a0Horseshoe Canyon Ranch<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Arkansas,\u00a0Foster Falls<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Stone Fort<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Chattanooga, and many other locations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re interested, ask to join our google group<\/a> and come climbing at the wall!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-Trip Requirements<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Please make sure you can commit before signing up for trips as last-minute cancellations can get complicated. In order to go on an outdoor trip you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • be belay certified by the Duncan Climbing Wall (for RRG trips)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • pay the club dues<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • fill out the necessary waivers – especially the IMLeagues one!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • fill out our pre-trip spreadsheet (will be emailed once you get a spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • attend the pre-trip meeting (time decided after sign-ups closed, watch for an email about this)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • and of course come in and climb with us! Climbing indoors will help you have a better experience outside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    My First Climbing Trip: A Packing Guide<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    • Good, solid walking shoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Socks. Several socks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Your favorite climbing clothes<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Your second favorite climbing clothes (though most of us won’t change over the weekend)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • A jacket<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Rain gear – it only rains when you forget to bring it<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Toiletry necessities (we aren’t savages) (but you won’t need shower supplies because it costs $$$)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Pillow<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 2 water bottles<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Headlamp\/ flashlight\/ lantern if you have one<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Food for lunch (and breakfast\/ dinner if you don’t want Miguel’s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • $ for Miguel’s Pizza (and Miguel’s memorabilia from the gear shop)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The club will provide:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Climbing Gear (but remember to grab it from the wall!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Sleeping bags<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Sleeping pads<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Tents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        But you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
