{"id":4294,"date":"2014-12-06T19:04:19","date_gmt":"2014-12-07T00:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/cyclingirish\/?p=4294"},"modified":"2014-12-06T23:27:20","modified_gmt":"2014-12-07T04:27:20","slug":"flashback-2012-road-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/cyclingirish\/flashback-2012-road-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Finals Week Flashback: 2012 Road Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Notre Dame student athletes preparing for finals week, now is a perfect time to remember the history of ND\u00a0Cycling.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PVAdRGQ6yVk&amp;feature=youtu.be\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">2012 Season Highlight Video<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Led by senior captain Nathaniel Lee, the 2012 Irish cycling squad was arguably the most complete in school history. 10 riders from this team would race in the A category before their careers concluded, with upperclassmen\u00a0Joseph Magro, Douglas Ansel, Andrew O&#8217;Donnell, Brian Hurley, Patrick Handy, Carolyn McCann, and Brian Boyle, forming an experienced core. The team was augmented\u00a0by current MWCCC defending champion John Pratt&#8217;s sparkling freshman season, and also saw the emergence of \u00a0transfer Luke Tilmans\u00a0coincide with the\u00a0beginning of freshmen James Snitzer and Michael Chifala&#8217;s decorated ND careers. David Pratt, \u00a0and August Kunkel both won races for Notre Dame that spring, while\u00a0Phil Palmon, Patrick Handy,\u00a0Josh Corcoran, and Rob Piscatelli all scored multiple top 5&#8217;s for the team. \u00a0When the dust settled at the first ever MWCCC Conference Championships to be held in South Bend, Notre Dame had amassed <strong>15<\/strong> individual and team wins throughout the season, with an <em>unprecedented<\/em> <strong>50 top 5&#8217;s<\/strong>.\u00a0Easily reclaiming the school&#8217;s second MWCCC DII team crown, Joe Magro also collected his second\u00a0MWCCC individual title. \u00a0To cap the 2012 season, Notre Dame\u00a0Cycling was named the Notre Dame student club of the year, in recognition of their partnership with the Ara Parsegian Medical Research Foundation, charity initiatives\u00a0throughout the South Bend Community, and work to bring corporate sponsorship to ND club sports.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012, Notre Dame&#8217;s cycling program has continued to grow, and the 2015 spring season promises to bring even more excitement to the ND community.
