Daniel C. Miller is Coyle Mission Collegiate Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame Keough School of Global Affairs<\/a> and Coordinator of the Forests and Livelihoods (FLARE) Network<\/a>. He is a also Core Affiliate Faculty Member of the Pulte Institute for Global Development<\/a> where he leads the Innovating Green Pathways to Prosperity<\/a> research project under the University of Notre Dame Poverty Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller\u2019s research and teaching focus on international environmental politics and policy. He is especially interested in understanding the socioeconomic and ecological impacts of conservation funding in tropical countries and the political factors shaping those impacts. His research also explores the contribution forests and trees make to human well-being in rural areas around the world. Miller has carried out fieldwork in more than 10 countries, particularly in Africa. His research has been published in Nature<\/em>, PNAS<\/em>, One Earth<\/em>, Global Environmental Change<\/em>, and World Development<\/em>, among other journals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Miller completed his Ph.D. in the School for Environment and Sustainability<\/a> at the University of Michigan and earned undergraduate and Master\u2019s degrees in Political Science<\/a> at the University of Illinois. He chaired the IUFRO Expert Panel on Forests and Poverty<\/a> and serves on the Editorial Boards for Conservation Letters<\/a> and PLOS Sustainability and Transformation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Miller was Senior Forestry Specialist at the Program on Forests<\/a> at the World Bank<\/a>. Dr. Miller has also served as Program Associate for Conservation and Sustainable Development at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation<\/a> and Rural Community Development Advisor for Yayasan Dian Tama<\/a>, a local NGO in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
