{"id":110,"date":"2018-06-03T17:24:02","date_gmt":"2018-06-03T21:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/elizabeth-louden\/?page_id=110"},"modified":"2018-06-03T18:22:15","modified_gmt":"2018-06-03T22:22:15","slug":"modeling-particle-interactions-using-g4beamline","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/elizabeth-louden\/research\/modeling-particle-interactions-using-g4beamline\/","title":{"rendered":"Modeling Particle Interactions Using G4Beamline"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Lewis University<\/h3>\n<h3>advised by:\u00a0 Professor Joseph Kozminski<\/h3>\n<p>G4Beamline, the user-friendly front-end to GEANT4, is a powerful toolkit for performing Monte Carlo computer simulations of particle interactions.\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"s1\"> I worked to design and optimize detector shielding for high energy physics experiments, including shielding for a potential muon collider and the beam stop of the more immanent Mu2e experiment at FermiLab.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Much of this work was done in collaboration with Muons, Inc., Northern Illinois University, and the Mu2e project at Fermilab.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>Mu2e Target Design<\/h5>\n<p>In order to study subatomic particles produced in particle collider, the particle background that interferes with the desired signal must be reduced. Detector shielding is essential in accomplishing this goal and can be optimized prior to implementation through computer simulation. For this project, I used G4Beamline to simulate neutron interactions with cylindrical targets of various materials.
