Online College Teaching Institute (OCTI)<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Online College Teaching Institute is a 6-week long online course designed to teach graduate students how to be effective online teachers.\u00a0 The course covers the topics of curriculum planning using backward design, establishing practical learning goals, and creating a course within the Canvas Learning Management System. Teaching Practicum<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Physics Department Teaching Practicum provides graduate students the opportunity to give a full lecture to physics students and receive feedback from an observer. I completed three lectures as part of the teaching practicum \u2014 one upper level physics course with only ~10 students and one lower level physics course with ~ 100 students.<\/p>\n

I was a teaching assistant for the General Physics I & II tutorials for three semesters: Fall 2013, Spring 2014, and Fall 2014. The purpose of the tutorials was to practice problem-solving techniques in a group setting. Each section consisted of 15 – 20 students. I structured the tutorials with a 5 minute lecture to review the important concepts\/equations, 35-40 minutes of group work time, and 5-10 minutes at the end for groups to present their solutions. The tutorial questions were provided by the professor in charge of the course and used by all tutorial sections. I received mid-semester and end of the semester evaluations for the Fall of 2014.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I was a general purpose teaching assistant at Lewis University.\u00a0 I helped set-up the General Physics labs and provided assistance to the students as they completed the lab.\u00a0 I also helped with the grading of the General Physics exams and lab reports<\/span><\/p>\n
