Hi, my name is Jonathan “Jon” and I am from San Marcos, CA. Currently, I am in my fourth year in IBMS and I am a member of the Flores-Mireles Lab where we study Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections. My role in this study is to understand the inflammatory response to derive novel therapeutic approaches that shift CAUTI outcomes in favor of patients. In my free time I enjoy hiking and lifting, relaxing with blues and a charcuterie board, and going to antique stores for rare finds. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Julia Spear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is my third year in the IBMS-GSO, and my second year as vice president. I love being a part of IBMS, because it is such a diverse group of people with many kinds of interests in studying biomedical science! This program led me to join Katharine White’s Lab in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department, where we study how intracellular pH dynamics regulate proteins, pathways, and cell behaviors. For my specific interests in the lab, I am exploring single-cell intracellular pH dynamics during cell cycle, and how pH heterogeneity correlates with cell phenotype and behavior. I received my bachelor\u2019s degree in biology from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, and that is also where I grew up and my family still resides.  I equally love spending my free time cooking and relaxing at home, or out exploring craft breweries and restaurants in the Michiana area. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Simon is a 3rd year IBMS grad student in the Genomics and Proteomics cluster, and a member of Matt Champion’s lab. He enjoys soccer, playing with his dog, and eating good cheese.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Guoqiang ‘Orson’ Liu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Orson devotes himself to investigating the mechanism of cancer progression and developing possible novel therapies for tumors. Now, he is specifically working on mechanism of androgen receptor(AR) inhibitor resistance and regulation of PD-L1 expression in prostate cancer by CRISPR screening.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
