I walk because I have Leo\u2026 it\u2019s a social activity\u2026 I meet people and see other dog owners and see the neighborhood. It opens up conversation.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe things I feel like I\u2019m not in control of, I get checked every year.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019d be willing to help my doctor track my health, and I wouldn\u2019t find it invasive, but I\u2019m not worried about anything because I don\u2019t drink or smoke and I\u2019m aware of how to stay healthy.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m a needs-based person.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThere\u2019s more knowledge coming out every year and people are more open to discussing health with their family.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI haven\u2019t thought about it yet. I don\u2019t know what my plans for retirement are.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c[Moving] depends where you guys are living. I\u2019d want to be close to wherever you guys are. It\u2019s hard to age without a support system\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Key insights: Some people need to wait for a shock to begin monitoring their health, reliance on others to encourage motivation, each generation handles healthcare differently (culture-wise) too<\/li>\n<li>Patterns: Another person emphasizing the importance of socialization, the expectation that family cannot provide all the support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How involved are you with your dad\u2019s health right now?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s also been lucky with his health\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI ask how he\u2019s doing all the time\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s young, he\u2019s 73.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI see more things mentally than physically\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Would you want to be more involved in his health?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIf Mimi isn\u2019t here. She\u2019s the first line of defense\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThere\u2019s more knowledge coming out every year and people are more open to discussing health with their family\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How would you help him?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019d start with the doctors he has now\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThey\u2019ve already been proactive- their building has an elevator and a gym and he doesn\u2019t have to shovel\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf he had a medical issue, I\u2019d move him to the Osborn [assisted facility in Rye] but it depends on him because he\u2019s very stubborn\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWe\u2019ve never talked about it because he\u2019s still young and independent\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you technologically savvy?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cYes, I am savvy\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI know how to download apps\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How do you use technology for your health?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI have a Fitbit but I use it in the summer. I also have the Health app on my iPhone\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI feel like I\u2019m working most of the time and I know my average habits, don\u2019t need it all the time\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI used the nutrition thing and it depressed me\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI use other apps for recipes and news\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI look at it all the time to see what I did during the week. I walked 7 miles per day at ND over JPW!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m more conscious about it now that I can track it, but I haven\u2019t really tracked it much. I walk because I have Leo\u2026 it\u2019s a social activity\u2026 I meet people and see other dog owners and see the neighborhood. It opens up conversation\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What would you like to do for your health in the future?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201ceven now I\u2019m trying to eat more salad and do more things. I make an attempt to eat healthy and enjoy treats in moderation\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cthe things I feel like I\u2019m not in control of, I get checked every year\u201d (cancer)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How often do you exercise?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cEveryday. I walk 3 miles per day and I have an active job, plus pilates once per twice per week\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Would you like your doctor to be more proactively involved in your day-to-day health?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t have a good relationship with my doctor\u2026 I doubt she\u2019s missing me\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf I got an email saying it\u2019s time for my checkup, I\u2019d like that\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t mind sending my Fitbit data to the doctor to track it\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019d be willing to help my doctor track my health, I wouldn\u2019t find it invasive, but I\u2019m not worried about anything because I don\u2019t drink or smoke and I\u2019m aware\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m a needs based person\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How often do you see a doctor?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cOnce every two years for a regular doctor because I consider myself healthy plus specialists once per year\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you think about your health often?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI think about it all the time. My mother died when she was 5 years older than me. Could I eat more fruit? Yes. Could I eat less candy? Yes. But that\u2019s why I walk a lot and monitor my diet\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201call the moms who are home all those years play yoga and have routines but I work and watched you guys and walk the dog\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cexercise is social and I like that\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What are your plans post-retirement?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI haven\u2019t thought about it yet. I don\u2019t know what my plans are\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt depends where you guys are living. I\u2019d want to be close to wherever you guys are. It\u2019s hard to age without a support system\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAvoid the sandwich generation\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t keep anything from parents or children. That doesn\u2019t benefit anybody\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019d wait until I had a complete story about my health.
