{"id":926,"date":"2017-03-07T22:50:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-08T02:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/?p=926"},"modified":"2017-03-07T22:54:20","modified_gmt":"2017-03-08T02:54:20","slug":"interactive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/2017\/03\/07\/interactive\/","title":{"rendered":"Interactive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Interaction<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Graffiti Wall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the interactive immersion, I went to Clay high school and stood in the hallways as they got out of their last class of the day.\u00a0 I asked students to write down a word or two answering the question, \u201cWhat made you decide to come to Clay?\u201d\u00a0 Some students continued to walk past ignoring us asking for help, but I was able to get 24 responses before the hallways emptied.\u00a0 Because we stood at the wall while students responded, we were able to limit the answers to ensure that most answers were appropriate and valid.<\/p>\n<p>I gathered interesting results from the graffiti wall.\u00a0 Each response fell in one of the following 4 categories: sports, the magnet program, friends, or the student didn\u2019t have a choice (their parents made them or they had to because they live in district).\u00a0 Sports, the magnet program, and friends totaled 8, 7, and 6 responses respectively while not having a choice fell below with 3 students.<\/p>\n<p>The most surprising thing about these results is the fact that the most dominant response was sports, yet when I asked everyone about how their sports teams were, there were mostly only negative responses.\u00a0 If sports are valued so highly as an attraction factor, Clay could be losing a lot of students to schools with better sports teams.\u00a0 The magnet program and choice to be with friends followed our expectations.\u00a0 From this group, we didn\u2019t have many kids say they didn\u2019t have a choice of what school they wanted to attend which may provide insight that the parents are not as involved in most students\u2019 decision as I may think.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to think about is the overlap of all of these categories.\u00a0 This interaction doesn\u2019t really allow us to analyze the synthesis of some categories.\u00a0 We need to think about how they all play a role together.\u00a0 The response \u201cfriends\u201d may lie fundamentally in the fact that people often form their friends in elementary and middle school, therefore rely heavily on the district even though students may not acknowledge this as their decision variable.\u00a0 These numbers may not accurately reflect whether students have much say in their decision even though they may believe they do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interaction \u00a0 Graffiti Wall &nbsp; For the interactive immersion, I went to Clay high school and stood in the hallways as they got out of their last class of the day.\u00a0 I asked students to write down a word or two answering the question, \u201cWhat made you decide to come to Clay?\u201d\u00a0 Some students continued [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2377,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[188720],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-926","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-clay-high-school-team-a"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/926","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2377"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=926"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/926\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":927,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/926\/revisions\/927"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=926"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=926"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/innovation-and-design-thinking\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=926"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
