Hi! I’m Jonathan Takeshita (\u7af9\u4e0b\u30b8\u30e7\u30ca\u30b5\u30f3\u8ce2), and I was a doctoral student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering<\/a> at The University of Notre Dame du Lac<\/a>. After Notre Dame, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Tokyo Institute of Technology<\/a>, where I was advised by Dr. Yang Cao<\/a>. My doctoral studies were advised by Dr. Taeho Jung<\/a>, and I was a member of the Data, Security, and Privacy Lab<\/a>. My graduate studies were generously supported by the Jack and Mary Ann Remick Fellowship in Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I am currently an Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University<\/a>, where I am appointed in both the Department of Computer Science<\/a> and School of Cybersecurity<\/a>. The School is the first of its kind in the United States, and brings with its inception a wealth of new opportunities for cross-disciplinary work.<\/p>\n

My research spans a wide array of topics including homomorphic encryption, trusted hardware, hardware acceleration for cryptography, private data aggregation, music theory, image deduplication, LLM security, and private advertising. I have also taught or tutored several courses in STEM subjects and music at a few different institutions now. For Summer 2022, I was at Meta<\/a> (formerly known as Facebook) as a Research Engineer Intern on the Statistics & Privacy team. My work at Meta focused on applying Trusted Execution Environments for use in privacy-preserving advertising analytics. For Summer 2021, I was at <\/span>Google<\/a> as a Software Engineering Intern on the Privacy Infrastructure Research team. At Google, I worked on research and development for homomorphic encryption. (Project details are confidential.)<\/span><\/p>\n

I hold a B.S.E. in Computer Science from The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor<\/a>, and a B.A. in Engineering Physics and Music from Albion College<\/a>. I have held various positions in research, development, and teaching at those institutions as well as at Cornami<\/a>, Epic<\/a>, Washington University in St. Louis<\/a>, and Schoolcraft College<\/a>.<\/p>\n

My research spans a wide range of topics in security and privacy, including work in privacy-preserving contact tracing<\/a>, fully homomorphic encryption<\/a>, private stream aggregation,<\/a> secure multi-party computation<\/a>, secure image deduplication<\/a>, and compute-enabled RAM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Besides research, I enjoy classical piano, teaching computer science, C\/C++ programming, Linux gaming, and Michigan football<\/a>.
