On the left are Congolese women who asked Kristin to join their native dances after her invited lecture in Kinshasa to male-only leaders of African nations. The lecture addressed risks of Africans’ accepting nuclear power and hazardous wastes from developed nations. On the right are some of the hundreds of Notre Dame students, mostly environmental scientists/engineers, who have worked with Kristin on pro-bono environmental-justice projects–for which Kristin and her students have won awards. They are with Cheryl Johnson, director of “People for Community Recovery” (PCR). PCR leads efforts to stop the long-time, City of Chicago practice of siting its many toxic-waste dumps in the incorporated Black community south of the city.
