Program Overview

The Notre Dame Lab Safety Officer Program, known around campus as the LSO Program, is a graduate student-led organization within the Notre Dame Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. With 47 active lab safety officers, or LSOs, every chemistry and biochemistry lab participates in program. We are devoted to preventing safety issues before they occur and educating new members of the graduate program on creating good safety habits while encouraging a culture of good laboratory safety on campus.

We accomplish this goal by acting as a centralized source of easy to digest safety information, acting as a liaison between University Safety Committees and Departmental lab groups, and organizing annual peer led walkthroughs of all chemistry and biochemistry labs on campus!

On the left you can find our constitution, the benefits and responsibilities of becoming an LSO, and the program events, such as spring clean up and our yearly walkthrough schedule.
