I believe&nbsp;the best practice of laboratory safety involves&nbsp;a collaborative, supportive environment&nbsp;based on awareness, maintenance, and community. By serving as the Biochemistry Divisional LSO, I aim to act as a resource for biochemistry labs in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Notre Dame and also work with my fellow leadership LSOs and safety administration to promote and&nbsp;maintain a well-rounded safety culture!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kristin Grandstaff &#8211; Inorganic Divisional LSO<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/lsoprogram\/files\/2025\/06\/1725479961330.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-374\" style=\"width:277px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/lsoprogram\/files\/2025\/06\/1725479961330.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/lsoprogram\/files\/2025\/06\/1725479961330-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I am a third-year\u00a0grad student in the S. Brown lab where we study the\u00a0reactivity of redox-active ligands with middle d-block metals that achieve electron covalency with the energy match between the metal\u2019s d-orbitals and the ligand\u2019s redox-active orbitals. I believe it is essential to promote a safe lab culture not only for the individual labs but as a collective across the department. This is my first year as the Analytical Divisional LSO. I&#8217;m excited to help others maintain a safe research environment and to keep promoting a culture of safety in the department!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Theo &#8211; Organic Divisional LSO<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"205\" height=\"246\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/lsoprogram\/files\/2025\/06\/theo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-373\" style=\"width:277px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I am a third year in Dr. Juan Del Valle&#8217;s Lab researching therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases by mimicking&nbsp;portions of the Tau protein to&nbsp;serve as inhibitors of aggregation. Before graduate&nbsp;school, I got my B.S. in Chemistry from Christopher Newport University as well as a minor in Spanish. I was the Analytical Divisional LSO for 1 year before becoming the head LSO and have been a part of the program since my first year at Notre Dame. I joined the LSO program as a way to help our young laboratory learn more about safety culture and proper procedure as we set up and began to do research.
