Benton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am a Visiting Associate Research Professor in the <a title=\"https:\/\/philreligion.nd.edu\/\" href=\"https:\/\/philreligion.nd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Philosophy of Religion<\/a> at the <a title=\"http:\/\/nd.edu\/\" href=\"http:\/\/nd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Notre Dame<\/a>. From 2016-2025 I was a philosophy professor at <a title=\"http:\/\/spu.edu\/\" href=\"http:\/\/spu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Pacific University<\/a>, and before that a postdoctoral research fellow at Notre Dame, and at the\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Oxford<\/a>. I did my Ph.D. in Philosophy at\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/philosophy.rutgers.edu\/\" href=\"http:\/\/philosophy.rutgers.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rutgers University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My primary areas of research are Epistemology, Philosophy of Language, and Philosophy of Religion, and increasingly on issues in Ethics. Recent work has explored knowing others in relationship, goodness, honesty, lying, communicative responsibility, and emotions like hope. Related and earlier topics include assertion, hedging, predictions, fallibilism, defeat, knowledge norms, and the epistemology of religion. This year I&#8217;ve written new papers on prayer, divine hiddenness, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
