Piper Halcrow

Piper Halcrow is a PhD student in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She graduated with Honors from Carson-Newman University in 2023 with her BS in Applied Physics and Communication Studies. In undergrad, Halcrow played NCAA Beach Volleyball, where she won awards and represented her team in NCAA legislation decisions. She also held leadership roles in three honor societies, tutored STEM courses, and volunteered – while writing her engineering thesis. These experiences were the foundation of her transition to graduate school. At Notre Dame, Halcrow conducts computational research in radiation transport led by Dr. Ryan McClarren. Her research aims to investigate the behavior of neutrons and strongly coupled plasmas in neutron star envelopes near the transition from radiation dominated to electron dominated heat transport to determine the nature of emission of these plasmas. Halcrow also recently interned at NASA as a software engineer debugging, testing, and coding the launch control system for the Artemis missions.
