For students entering the program with non-EAC\/ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees who are targeting careers requiring professional engineering (PE) registration<\/a>, it\u2019s important that you review the NCEES education standards and credentials evaluations process<\/a>. Students who are determined by NCEES to have deficiencies in their early-level college courses can often remediate the deficiencies by taking CLEP exams<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other pathways to meet educational requirements for PE registration are available but vary by state. Some states provide alternative lists of courses for aspiring PEs who do not have EAC\/ABET-accredited degrees including Indiana<\/a>. Some states alter the number of years of experience required to register to become a PE for those with non-EAC\/ABET-accredited degrees including California<\/a>. Some states recognize the MEng degree as satisfying educational requirements for PE registration provided that the MEng is from a school that has an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in the same discipline as the MEng degree including Washington<\/a>. Note that the Notre Dame MEng program is housed in a department with two ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We encourage all students targeting future PE registration to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)<\/a> exam as soon as possible, including prior to matriculating to the Notre Dame MEng. Note that Indiana<\/a> has adopted an automatic approval model to register for the FE exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
