Costs for the academic year can be viewed here. A confirmation fee of $1,000 is required with a student’s signed Acceptance of Offer to the professional masters program. This fee will be applied to the student’s tuition upon enrollment at Notre Dame and is non-refundable if the student chooses not to matriculate to the University.

The University requires all graduate students to have health insurance coverage. At the beginning of each academic year, the opportunity is provided to show proof of personal health insurance coverage. In the event such proof is not presented, the student will automatically be enrolled in the University-sponsored plan, and the charge for the premium will be placed on the student’s account.

Cost of Living

The University of Notre Dame is situated in one of America’s most affordable locations: South Bend, Indiana (and Greater Michiana). In fact, a 2025 report from Niche.com ranked South Bend #4 on its list of cities with the lowest cost of living in America (for cities with a population of 100,000 or more). The interactive dashboard gives you a sense for how South Bend stacks up against other cities in terms of cost of living.

Financial Arrangements

Tuition and fees, as well as any required deposits, are payable in advance at the beginning of each semester. Please note that Notre Dame does not accept credit cards for payment of tuition and fees. Tuition and/or fees not covered by scholarship are the responsibility of the student.

A student may not register for a new semester or receive transcripts, certificates, diploma, or any information regarding his or her academic record until all prior accounts have been settled in full.

For more information, visit the Office of Student Accounts.

Scholarships

Partial merit-based scholarships are provided based on the strength of each applicant’s academic and professional record at the time of admission decision. Contact the MEng Academic Program Administrator at masteng@nd.edu to register your interest. Please note, these positions are not guaranteed in advance of your enrollment and do not cover full-tuition fees.

Some of our students take on student employment during the year. Full-time students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week, although we often recommend less due to the academic demands of the MEng curriculum. Due to visa restrictions, international students may only work on-campus positions.

Financial Aid

Applying for Federal Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the official document required for federal student aid at Notre Dame.
