{"id":353,"date":"2013-09-16T11:00:21","date_gmt":"2013-09-16T15:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/?p=353"},"modified":"2013-10-02T14:39:03","modified_gmt":"2013-10-02T18:39:03","slug":"daniel-tobin-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/2013\/09\/16\/daniel-tobin-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Tobin Reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Visiting author, Daniel Tobin will be reading from his most recent collection of poems, <i>Belated Heavens,<\/i> September 18<sup>th<\/sup>, 2013, at the Hammes Campus Bookstore.\u00a0 The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/files\/2013\/09\/belatedheavenscover1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-355\" alt=\"Belated Heavens\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/files\/2013\/09\/belatedheavenscover1.jpg\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Belated Heavens <\/i>weaves an assortment of iconographies, from Babylonian gods, paparazzi, and the extinction of endangered species, to the exploration of the lost world.\u00a0 His poems paint a startling contrast from prehistory to modern Manhattan, Neanderthals \u201ccowering in caves\u201d to a man snoring in Penn Station as if he\u2019s \u201cswallowed an espresso machine\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/files\/2013\/09\/tobin_mug1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-354\" alt=\"Daniel Tobin\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/mfa-creative-writing\/files\/2013\/09\/tobin_mug1.jpg\" width=\"209\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a>Tobin is the author of five books of poems, <i>Where the World is Made<\/i> (University Press of New England, 1999), <i>Double Life <\/i>(Louisiana State University Press, 2004), <i>The Narrows <\/i>(Four Way Books, 2008), and <i>Belated Heavens <\/i>(Four Way Books, 2010), which won a Massachusetts Book Award.\u00a0 His writing has been published nationally and internationally, and has earned a number of honors and awards, including the Robert Penn Warren Award, the Greensboro Review Prize, and the Robert Frost Fellowship.
