The graduate student algebra seminar (GSAS) will not take place this semester. In place of GSAS, there will be two reading seminars running concurrently. Please contact Emma Dooley (edooley[at]nd[dot]edu) and/or Fuxiang Yang (fyang6[at]nd[dot]edu) for more information.
An Introduction to the Minimal Model Program (MMP)
In this seminar we will follow Matsuki’s “Introduction to the Mori Program“. This seminar should provide the audience member with an introduction to birational geometry, and in particular, the minimal model program which is used in birational classification theory of higher dimensional algebraic varieties.
This seminar will take place on Fridays 2-3pm in Hayes-Healy 229. Please contact Emma Dooley (edooley[at]nd[dot]edu) for more information and/or to be added to the mailing list.
Singularities of Secant Varieties Seminar
The goal of this reading seminar is to understand some of the recent works regarding the singularities and the syzygies of Σk (X). We shall start with a sketch of the proof for the case n = 1, and we will spend most of the time working through the details of the case n = 2. If time permits, we will discuss additional topics such as connections to Green’s conjecture.
This seminar will take place on Wednesdays 11am-12pm in 258 Hurley. Contact organizers Fuxiang Yang (fyang6[at]nd[dot]edu) and/or Ritvik Ramkumar (rramkuma[at]nd[dot]edu) for more information and/or to be added to the mailing list.
