{"id":455,"date":"2013-12-02T18:51:16","date_gmt":"2013-12-02T18:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/msps\/?p=455"},"modified":"2013-12-02T18:51:16","modified_gmt":"2013-12-02T18:51:16","slug":"remembrance-and-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/2013\/12\/02\/remembrance-and-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembrance and Thanksgiving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/files\/2013\/12\/Art1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-457\" alt=\"Art\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/files\/2013\/12\/Art1-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/files\/2013\/12\/Art1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/files\/2013\/12\/Art1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/msps\/files\/2013\/12\/Art1.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For me, the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving.\u00a0 I give praise for the blessing bestowed regarding relationships.\u00a0 Having the time to spend with family and friends is priceless.\u00a0 We reflect on traditions established by our ancestors and passed down through generations.\u00a0 On November 28, I lost a true friend and former colleague, Arthur Taylor, Jr., former MSPS assistant director for programming.<\/p>\n<p>In the Fall of 2001, he called the office to see if we would cover his visit to campus with his nephew. We could not; but that did not deter him from coming and bringing the young man, who was discerning between Notre Dame and Dartmouth. We laughed about our first encounter and I discussed the programs and services of MSPS.\u00a0 Unbeknownst to us, Art would become a member of the MSPS team the following July.\u00a0 During his five years at the University, he established networks internally and externally that provided gateways to highlight ethnic and cultural clubs and organizations. The Development Office began requesting MSPS groups to participate in their events. Arthur collaborated with departments to feature ethnic scholars and the Navajo Windtalkers. He was a true advocate for diversifying the curriculum as a member of the University\u2019s Cultural Diversity Committee.
