This committee will also explore specific health crises that require urgent global attention. Topics may include antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the need for international policies to regulate antibiotic use; vaccine inequity in pandemic response and the challenges of global distribution the spread of zoonotic diseases such as Ebola and avian influenza; healthcare infrastructure in conflict zones where medical facilities are targeted or overwhelmed; and the intersection of climate change with infectious diseases like malaria and dengue. Mayte is a junior at the University of Notre Dame, residing in Welsh Family Hall. She is majoring in Political Science with minors in European Studies and Constitutional Studies. Originally from Miami, Florida, she also holds an associate’s degree. 

She has been involved in Model United Nations since middle school but started competing on the collegiate level her freshman year of university, attending conferences such as Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) and Johns Hopkins Model United Nations Conference (HopMUNC). Her extensive MUN experience includes competing in committees focused on crisis management, human rights, and global health.
