The Nallthamby lab participated in the 12th annual\u00a0Cancer\u00a0Research\u00a0Day<\/a>. This event showcased HCRI’s multidisciplinary cancer\u00a0research\u00a0and featured poster sessions, oral presentations, a keynote presentation, and awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s keynote,\u00a0Cancer Care Statewide: The Impact of Clinical &Translational Cancer\u00a0Research\u00a0<\/em>was given by\u00a0Nicholas J. Petrelli<\/a>, MD, FACS, Bank of America Endowed Medical Director at the\u00a0Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and\u00a0Research\u00a0Institute, ChristianaCare<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlie Kudary (BIPH Biomedical Technician) presented a poster titled “Reducing the Racial Disparity in Treatment Response to Chemotherapeuitcs by Using Magneto-electric Silica Nanocarriers for Systemic Therapeutic Action Against Metastatic Cancer Cells<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leading cause of fatalities in breast cancer is metastasis. To increase the success rate of metastasis-free survival, there is a need to tackle therapy-resistant metastatic forms of the disease with novel, patient-friendly, combinatorial treatment regimens. So, here we present the successful demonstration of targeted combinatorial delivery of V-ATPase inhibitors (Diph) and standard chemotherapeutics (Dox) to the MDAMB231 triple negative breast cancer metastatic cell model (2D and 3D) with positive cell clearance and affirmative inhibition of cancer cell invasion. This is an ongoing collaboration with Prof. Erin Howe of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science<\/p>\n\n\n\n
