Gura,\u00a0<em>Curator, Ancient and Medieval Manuscripts<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/library-web-graphic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-130 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/library-web-graphic-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"library-web-graphic\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/library-web-graphic-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/library-web-graphic-479x300.jpg 479w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/library-web-graphic.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This exhibition highlights the variety of medieval liturgical manuscripts and fragments housed in the University of Notre Dame&#8217;s Hesburgh Library which contain music. The manuscripts featured date from the eleventh through fifteenth century, and originate from various regions in France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. Some examples represent specific uses such as Carthusian monks or Dominican nuns. Other manuscripts in this exhibit were recovered from book bindings and serve as examples of older practices which may no longer exist in complete manuscripts.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit was featured as <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.nd.edu\/~ndworks\/2015_6_vol_12_no_11.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">the cover story for ND Works<\/a>\u00a0in June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Select chants from the manuscripts on display were performed and recorded by <a href=\"http:\/\/music.nd.edu\/people\/faculty\/alexander-blachly\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Alexander Blachly<\/a> (Department of Music, Notre Dame) and the Notre Dame Schola Musicorum. <a href=\"http:\/\/rarebooks.library.nd.edu\/exhibits\/2015-medieval_music.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Audio files of these chants<\/a>\u00a0can be listened to online.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit is open to the public 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, through July 31, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s still time to see the Special Collections spring and summer 2015 exhibit, Sacred Music at Notre Dame: the Voice of the Text, curated by Dr. David T.
