This year&#8217;s conference, &#8220;Preserve the Humanities! Special Collections as Liberal Arts Laboratory,&#8221; was devoted to the roles\u00a0special collections libraries have undertaken to\u00a0shape teaching and research in the liberal arts. Natasha and Julie spent three-and-a-half days attending workshops, paper panels, and seminars as well as networking with rare book vendors, conservators, faculty, archivists, curators, librarians, and other rare book and special collections professionals. Here are some of the topics they learned about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>digital infrastructure and curating digital exhibits for special collections libraries<\/li>\n<li>engaged collection development<\/li>\n<li>special collections as the liberal arts laboratory<\/li>\n<li>digital humanities and special collections: tools, challenges, and opportunities<\/li>\n<li>creating new partnerships with faculty, campus offices, and outside organizations<\/li>\n<li>leveraging technology to create virtual research environments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rbms.info\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-143 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2015\/07\/rbms2015-300x80.png\" alt=\"rbms 2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"88\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/rbms.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RBMS<\/a> is a section of the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Julie Tanaka, Curator, Special Collections, Western European History Librarian.
