While we don&#8217;t have any ghosts (that we know of), <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nd.edu\/rbsc\/whats-what-rare-books\/\">we do have books<\/a> that contain ghost stories. Whether a central character intended to frighten the reader or a convenient plot device, ghosts appear in a variety of works of fiction. Listed\u00a0here are a selection of such stories to be found in\u00a0our rare books.<\/p>\n<p>One of the earliest\u00a0recorded ghost stories is that told by <a href=\"http:\/\/onesearch.library.nd.edu\/NDU:nd_campus:ndu_aleph002961720\" target=\"_blank\">Pliny the Younger in his <em>Letters<\/em><\/a>, written in\u00a0the early 2nd century AD.
