The University of Notre Dame\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/1916.nd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keough-Naughton Institute<\/a> is at\u00a0the forefront of the impetus to re-examine the events of 1916, with Professor Br\u00edona Nic Dhiarmada\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/1916.nd.edu\" target=\"_blank\">three-part documentary, <em>1916 The Irish Rebellion<\/em><\/a> which will be shown on public television in Ireland, the U.S. and at screenings throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame will also be the center of Irish studies for five days this spring as host to <a href=\"http:\/\/acis.nd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">ACIS (the American Conference for Irish Studies)<\/a>. Over a thousand visitors are expected at this conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-826\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-826 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916-1024x214.jpg\" alt=\"Case5-Women-of-1916\" width=\"660\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916-1024x214.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916-300x63.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916-768x161.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/rbsc\/files\/2016\/03\/Case5-Women-of-1916.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Hesburgh Libraries Rare Books and Special Collections, a special exhibit to mark this centenary is\u00a0on display from February 12<sup>th<\/sup> until April 28<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit draws from the Hesburgh Special Collections and includes books written by people involved in the events as well as contemporary accounts of the rebellion. Letters on display include one from Roger Casement. An extremely rare first edition of W. B. Yeats\u2019s poem <em>Easter, 1916<\/em> is part of the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>From the University Archives, a book recording the subscriptions of South Bend residents to an Irish government bond will be on display.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit is\u00a0open to the public from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year marks the centenary of the Easter Rising, the rebellion that led to the eventual establishment of an Irish Free State.
