You’re going to hear two terms tossed around pretty much with equanimity: “planned giving” and “gift planning.” These terms are two ways of referencing the same department. Don’t let it throw you!
In your day-to-day, you know that when you go to process a gift or signed gift agreement, you fill out a transmittal and send it along via courier to Donor Services. With Gift Planning, it’s totally different. Instead, you will give all of these thingsĀ (IRA pay-outs, checks for CRTs, signed LTND forms, etc) to your liaison in Gift Planning to process. There are specific IRS rules in place surrounding these sorts of gifts and pledges, and these lovely people absolutely specialize in them, to the point of every Gift Planning Officer having their J.D.
