I\u2019m going to start this entry in blank verse.
\nAnd in rhyming couplets I\u2019ll also this immerse.
\nIn hope that it will inspiration bring,
\nAs I explain this week: \u2018The play\u2019s the thing\u2019!<\/p>\n

We have returned once more to Illinois.
\nDecatur this time, and a place enjoyed
\nBy each of us five \u2013 off the stage and on.
\nAnd at the strange hotel (back of beyond).\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Again we\u2019re on a highway, cars a must.
\nRoadtrips daily for eats and drinks and just
\nTo see more of the place, spend some time
\nWithin contrasting cultures we\u2019re consigned.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But this week I want to write about the play.
\nThose intriguing worlds behind words we say.
\nFor they are what this work is all about.
\n\u2018The play\u2019s the thing\u2019, of that there is no doubt.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shakespeare\u2019s insights, ideas and images
\nMake performing his plays a privilege.
\nHis stories told so personally heard,
\nThe heart of his great work lies in his words.<\/p>\n

So many ways a thought we can interpret,
\nAnd so I muse muchly on that subject.
\n\u2018We are such stuff\u2026\u2019 \u2018Be collected\u2026\u2019 \u2018Mine shall\u2026\u2019
\n\u2018I here abjure\u2026\u2019 \u2018Ye elves\u2026\u2019 \u2018And fare thou well\u2026\u2019.<\/p>\n

His words my scattered thoughts will sometime find,
\n(Like seeds amid the spirals of my mind),
\nI then exploring how his words have grown
\nWhen then I get to say them as my own.<\/p>\n

OK, this is taking a bit too long. Back to prose. Chattier, eh?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>We did have a fun and fairly sociable week in Decatur. It was particularly good fun hanging out with \u2018the staff\u2019 after the last show. Lovely people. The students were fabulous all week, too. Dedicated and talented. We worked almost exclusively with the University Theatre Department students this week and they were inventive, detailed and playful throughout.<\/p>\n

Our performance space was a 1900 seat theatre! We had a couple of hundred in for each performance. They all sat at the front of the auditorium close to the stage and it worked well.<\/p>\n

We finished our working week on the Friday and then had a couple of days off in St. Louis, Missouri, which was great. Beautiful weather for some touristy outs and abouts, and St. Louis struck me as a very clean and quiet town\u2026 very few people about on the streets but plenty busy once into the bars, shops, parks and attractions\u2026<\/p>\n

Off to Alabama tomorrow morning. Two weeks to go.<\/p>\n
