Our project “Analyzing Health Impacts of Natural Disasters in Puerto Rico for Promoting Resilience” has been funded by the Public Health Disaster Research Award Program by the Natural Hazard Center. The program supports teams of interdisciplinary scholars studying public health solutions to hazards in vulnerable communities across the United States. The award program was made possible with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Science Foundation.

I was invited to visit the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences and delivered a research talk titled “Strengthening Community Resilience to Natural Disasters & The Role of Organizations” from October 15 to 22, 2022.

Theme: Managing the Global Commons: Sustainable agriculture and use of the world’s land and water resources in the 21st Century (April 7-8, 2022, Purdue University).
I recently received funding to work with the Global Ministries— The United Methodist Church and conduct an impact evaluation for their large-scale U.S. disaster recovery program for 5 U.S. States (NC, SC, MS, AL, FL) and Puerto Rico. I will be working with the faculty and staff members at the Pulte Institute for Global Development, and we are actively searching for research assistants to support this project.
