Science Kit Project

Late in 2020, SPI@ND partnered with Dr. Cara Ocobock in a project to address COVID-related educational backslide in low-income, diverse student populations here in South Bend. Two successful grant applications, dozens of volunteer hours, and several last-minute shopping runs later, we were able to deliver ~150 science kits and printed lab manuals to students in Grades 1-6 at St. Adalbert Catholic School in South Bend before they went home for Winter Break. To learn more about the project, check out this article from ND Media and this podcast from the ND Center for Social Concerns (our main funding source)!

Early in 2021, we were able to obtain an extension on our funding from the National Science Policy Network to enable us to create ~50 more kits for the students in Grades 7 & 8 at St. Adalbert Catholic School before they go home for their Spring Break.
