{"id":80,"date":"2017-06-07T14:41:06","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T18:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/taeho-jung\/?page_id=80"},"modified":"2026-10-01T08:50:19","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T12:50:19","slug":"prospective-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/taeho-jung\/students\/prospective-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Prospective Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group bg--warm-white tj-callout is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Open Ph.D. position.<\/strong> I am looking for a Ph.D. student to work on trusted execution environments (TEEs) for secure and trustworthy AI and large language models (LLMs).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"working-with-me\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working with me<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I try to provide the best environment for the students I work with, and my first-priority goal is to let all students become independent researchers. If you want to be let alone, I will not micromanage you as long as I am convinced that you are on a good trajectory. If you want every detail to be advised by me, I will also do so. Those are two extreme cases, and I can be anywhere in between, depending on your preference and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-i-look-for\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I look for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-motivated, hard-working, and mature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Able to learn any new language within a reasonable time frame<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comfortable using Linux\/Unix systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A CS background that matches your most recent degree (i.e., its core course content)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Background or interest in the lab&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/taeho-jung\/#research\">research areas<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that our group does not do research in machine learning and data analysis for cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, or blockchain-based deep learning, so I am unable to advise students in those areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"how-to-apply\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:tjung@nd.edu\">Email me<\/a> before you submit your application.<\/strong> It gives your application a better chance of being accepted. Because I receive many inquiry emails, please include all of the following; without them, it is very likely that I will move on to the next email.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Curriculum vitae (CV)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unofficial transcripts from all of your previous studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>English proficiency test scores (if you are an international applicant) and GRE scores with percentiles (if you have taken the exam)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A brief description of your research interests and how they relate to the lab&#8217;s research areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sample publications (if any)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Apply to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cse.nd.edu\/graduate\/phd-in-computer-science-and-engineering\/\">CSE Ph.D. program<\/a><\/strong> and add me as one of your potential faculty advisors.
