This compendium covers posts from June-August, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Several contributors continued recurring themes in contemporary U.S. parish life.\u00a0 Lucas Sharma highlighted his study of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Chicago to consider \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/06\/07\/homosexuality-in-the-parish-the-example-of-st-mary-magdalene-parish\">homosexuality and parish life<\/a>.\u00a0 Michael Cieslak looked at recent research done in the Diocese of Rockford to highlight the role of complex <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/06\/27\/does-stewardship-work\/\">parish dynamics in promoting stewardship<\/a>.\u00a0 Moving from parish to national Catholic life, Michael continued considering the merits of competing methods for <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/06\/04\/counting-catholics-a-comparison-of-3-methods\/\">estimating the U.S. Catholic population<\/a>, particularly the use of parish baptismal and funeral logs, the Official Catholic Directory and telephone surveys.<\/p>\n<p>Social justice was another key theme during these months. \u00a0As Gary Adler proposed reclaiming a sense of <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/07\/02\/why-we-should-think-about-what-we-buy-and-drive\/\">responsibility in individual consumer behavior<\/a> and discussed its role in local and global social (in)justice.\u00a0 Brian Starks reflected on a talk that emphasized how one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/06\/21\/commitment-to-the-poor-one-of-the-fruits-of-eucharistic-celebration\/\">fruits of Eucharistic celebration is commitment to the poor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Kawental and Brian considered several topics surrounding contemporary women religious, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/07\/24\/women-religious-in-the-u-s\/\">media popularity of women religious<\/a>\u00a0(especially in the wake of\u00a0the doctrinal assessment of the\u00a0Leadership Conference of Women Religious), the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/07\/25\/lack-of-support-for-womens-vocations-among-lay-catholics\/\">lack of lay support for women\u2019s religious vocations<\/a>, and debates on the success of\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/thecc\/2012\/08\/09\/more-on-womens-religious-vocations\/\">LCWR vs. CMSWR vocation recruitment<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re continuing to summarize Catholic Conversation posts in \u201ccompendium\u201d announcements to help readers more easily navigate to earlier topics.
