In 2007, I was named the\u00a0Keough Hesburgh<\/span>\u00a0Professor of Economics in the\u00a0Department of Economics<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0University of Notre Dame<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Before coming to Notre Dame, I spent 28 years in the Atlantic Coast Conference having completed my undergraduate work at\u00a0Wake Forest University<\/a>\u00a0in 1983, my Ph.D. in Economics from\u00a0Duke University<\/a>\u00a0in 1987, and 20 years on the faculty in the\u00a0Department of Economics<\/a> at the\u00a0University of Maryland<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0I am a Research Associate of the\u00a0National Bureau of Economic Research<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0My principle research interests are in applied microeconomics and I have worked on topics in labor economics, the economics of education, public finance, industrial organization, and health economics.\u00a0\u00a0My colleague\u00a0Jim Sullivan<\/a> and I are the co-founders of the\u00a0Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities<\/a> (LEO), a unique research center that matches\u00a0top researchers with passionate leaders in the social service sector to conduct impact evaluations that identify the innovative, effective, and scalable programs and policies that help people move permanently out of poverty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
