{"id":25,"date":"2017-08-14T12:01:23","date_gmt":"2017-08-14T16:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2018-03-05T12:21:40","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T16:21:40","slug":"globalization","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/globalization\/","title":{"rendered":"Globalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"entry-title\"><strong>PART V<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"entry-title\">I devote this, the final section of our course to the meaning of <em><strong>Globalization<\/strong><\/em> for\u00a0the <strong><em>Nation State<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"entry-title\">Some people speak of \u201cglobalization\u201d as if it were an entirely new phenomenon.\u00a0 I am uncomfortable with this approach because it is so vague.\u00a0 If we define globalization in terms of a massive expansion in contacts among peoples and an explosion in new technologies, I\u2019m afraid that Genghis Khan (1162-1227 AD) and\u00a0Alexander the Great (356-323 BC) would be sorry to be excluded from this category. \u00a0To avoid making the concept extend too far, I will merely focus on a few contemporary ways in which they world has become, as they say, \u201ca smaller place.\u201d\u00a0 To do this, I will debunk\u00a0a few popular mythologies about where we are and where we are going.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n37.
