Shiraef<\/strong> is a Ph.D. student in political theory and comparative politics.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-310\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/mary-shiraef-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/mary-shiraef-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/mary-shiraef-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/mary-shiraef.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bHer current \u200bwork aims to address how dialogue and education around political conflicts can be structured in search of violence-free solutions and pursuit of a common good.\u200b She is completing ongoing field research in Greece, exploring both its external and internal crises and has published a short piece <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inquiriesjournal.com\/articles\/1486\/from-fighting-nazis-to-electing-nazis-the-rise-of-golden-dawn-in-greece\">on the recent rise of the neo-fascist political party in Greece called Golden Dawn<\/a>. Mary has a Master\u2019s degree from the University of St Andrews where she wrote on\u00a0the German philosopher \u200bHans-Georg Gadamer. Following the completion of her B.A. in Political Science from Emory University, she taught History, Politics and Literature to Indian high school students at a boarding school near Bangalore called Shanti Bhavan. Shanti Bhavan is designed to lift children born into the <em>Dalits<\/em>\u00a0caste out of poverty by providing a high-quality liberal arts-style education and was recently featured in the Netflix docuseries called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/80092926\"><em>Daughters of Destiny<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When Mary is not reading about politics and philosophy, she is playing rec volleyball at Notre Dame, raising money for <a href=\"https:\/\/shesthefirst.org\/\">She\u2019s the First<\/a>, or thinking about updating one of her travel-study blogs (here\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/marystudiesabroad.wordpress.com\/\">one on Europe<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/maryshiraefteachabroad.wordpress.com\/\">one on India<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/maryshiraefsenioryear.wordpress.com\/\">one on studying dangerous ideas in college<\/a><\/p>\n<p>OFFICE HOURS: \u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0are\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">2:00-3:30<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tuesday<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">3:30-5:00 \u00a0(the Nanovic Institute Enclave), and by appointment (if you can&#8217;t make the regular office hours)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Contact info: \u00a0mshiraef@nd.edu<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Rosenberg\u00a0<\/strong>is a Ph.D. student in comparative politics.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-311\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/Emma-Rosenberg-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/Emma-Rosenberg-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/sites.nd.edu\/world-politics-2017\/files\/2017\/08\/Emma-Rosenberg.jpg 276w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am a second year Comparativist and I study religion and politics. I am especially interested in questions of integration and civic engagement between religious minorities and local government in Western Europe. Prior to Notre Dame, I worked in Chicago politics and for the City of Chicago.
