My B.S. degree is from Tianjin University, China; my M.S. degree from Polytechnic Institute of New York (now New York University Tandon School of Engineering); and my Ph.D. degree from Purdue University. I worked for General Motors Research Labs for almost 4 years before I started my academic career. Between 1993 and 1996, I was an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

Through my many years of research, I have developed a wide range of research interests and expertise including

power, temperature, and reliability-aware system-level design,

circuit and architecture design with emerging technologies,

resource management for real-time embedded systems,

algorithm and hardware co-design for medical applications, and

computer-aided design of VLSI circuits and systems.

I have had the privilege of working with many talented students and colleagues, and authored/co-authored over 450 referred papers. I received the Best Paper Award from the ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference (DAC) in 2001; from the IEEE Symposium on Nanoscale Architectures (NanoArch) in 2009; from the ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED) in 2018; and from International Conference on Computer-Aided Design (ICCAD) in 2023. One of my papers was named one of “The Most Influential Papers of 10 Years Design, Automation, and Test in Europe Conference (DATE)”. I also received numerous research grants from both the U.S. government agencies and private industry. I have participated in several large industry and government-sponsored center-level projects. I received the CAREER award from the U.S. National Science Foundation in 1997. I was a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Council of Electronic Design Automation. I received the Marie R. Pistilli Women in Engineering Achievement Awar in 2023. I am a Fellow of the ACM and a Fellow of the IEEE.

I have contributed to the community through various service roles. I was the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems (TODAES) between 2020-2024. I also served as Associate Editor for ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems, IEEE Transactions on VLSI, and on the editorial board of IEEE Design and Test Magazine; and is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on CAD. I was the General Chair of DAC in 2018 and the TPC co-chair of DAC in 2015 and 2016. I was the Technical Program Chair and General Chair of IEEE Real-Time Systems Symposium (RTSS) in 2019 and 2020, respectively. I was the Technical Program Co-Chair of the 9th International Symposium on Hardware/Software Codesign (CODES’2001) and the General Co-Chair of the same conference in 2002. (The conference is now part of Embedded Systems WEEK.)

I was the Chair of the Executive Committee of ACM Special Interest Group on Design Automation (SIGDA) from 2018 to 2021, and was a member of the Executive Committee of IEEE Technical Committee on Real-Time Systems (TCRTS). I also served as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of ACM SIGDA; and Secretary/Treasurer of the Executive Committee of ACM Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems (SIGBED).

I served the University of Notre Dame in various capacities. I had been the Director of Graduate Studies for 10 years in the department of Computer Science and Engineering.
