“Huxley’s Lenina is the logical consequence of Singer’s utilitarianism!”
Please write an essay in which you take a firm stand on this quotation. Do you agree with it? Or do you disagree with it?
Make sure you answer this question (and not some other question). You may only choose one side. No professorial waffling! No political equivocation! No fence-sitting! Huxley and Singer want to know where you stand. So do I!
Your essay should be 3 – 4 (but no more than 4) typed, double-spaced pages (12 point font) of careful and exacting reasoning. It should have a thoughtfully chosen title. Make sure I can follow your argument effortlessly from the first sentence to the last sentence. Keep in mind that I will be very attentive to the counterarguments that can be raised against you. Use evidence to support your points. Clarify your terms. At the same time, be concise and to the point. When you are finished answering the question, stop.
As always, I do not expect your paper to be perfect. I will simply be pleased if you write the best paper you have ever written in your life. For this reason, you should begin your paper as soon as possible. Write a first. draft, set it aside, then return to it once you have had time to reflect on your argument.
Once again, I recommend that you visit the Writing Center to get another perspective. How can it hurt? We all need advice in developing our writing.
Here’s an Idea: Begin your essay as soon as exactly now.
