I’m an Associate Professor in the Sociology Department and the Director for the Center for the Study of Religion and Society. I’m also a faculty affiliate of the Center for the Study of Social Movements, Institute for Latino Studies, and Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. I teach and engage in research in the areas of collective behavior/social movements, civic engagement/volunteerism, and the sociology of religion, especially congregation-based mobilizing. Published work on these topics appear in the American Sociological Review, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Mobilization, Poetics, Politics and Religion, Social Forces, Social Problems, Sociological Methods and Research, Social Science Research, and Sociology of Religion.
