Matt Cashore, University Photographer
Matt Cashore took up photography in high school and after graduating from Notre Dame worked as a newspaper photographer and a local television cameraman. Although his first love is photography—he’s shot the campus from every conceivable angle—he’s also an accomplished videographer. He has contributed extensively to Notre Dame Magazine and has had his sports photos published in Sports Illustrated, the New York Times and ESPN The Magazine. A fun fact: He wanted to be an Air Force pilot as a kid, but his vision was not good enough. Ironically, his bad eyes seem to shoot beautiful pictures.

Hello! This message is for Barbara Johnston. My name is Michael Lerma and I found the blog through one of my fellow ’09 classmates, Lauren Carr. The pictures you took at the grotto of the group that was coming down from a rehearsal at the Basilica was actually for my wedding! I was very surprised to see this blog post and I had no idea you were back there and able to take those photos. I just wanted to say what a joy it is to see how it turned out, it truly looks awesome. Anyway, we will most likely be purchasing a few photos of this but I wanted to drop a line to say thank you for the awesome pictures and I’m glad that you were there that night to capture such unique photos!
Sincerely,
Michael Lerma & KristaRose Lerma
My name is Shannon Dankert and my husband and son come out to the campus every year to take in a hockey and football game combination for a long deserved father son bonding time. This October (2014) my husband and son were close enough to the field that my husband used my camera to capture, what I think is the most brilliant picture, of the stadium, players, and band that I could have only imagined. Since I am the photographer in the family, I was astonished by his eye on this picture. I would like to share this photo with all of you, but have no idea where I can submit it. If you could direct me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
All the best from one amazed wife and die-hard ND fan,
Shannon Dankert
I don’t know who took the photo on P.84 of the Fr. Hesburgh Special Edition of the Notre Dame magazine, but it is awesome. The deer on St. Mary’s Lake, with the steam rising from the campus power plants, and the glow of the Dome made me cry. The deer are like angels watching the incence rise for Fr. Ted. Our Lady was welcoming him back home. Say a prayer for our daughter this week during her finals. Blessings to all. Gary Gruneisen
