I am a fifth year graduate student ultimately looking to work with land managers to address climate issues. I study surface-atmosphere interactions in forests and how those interactions change in response to human land use and disturbances. In particular, I focus on the balance of albedo and transpiration effects and how they compare to the climate benefits of carbon assimilation in forests. Since surface-atmosphere interactions can produce climate effects comparable in magnitude to those of atmospheric carbon dioxide, it is important that they be given due consideration in making climate predictions and forest policy.
