Agustín Fuentes is a primatologist and anthropologist who trained at University of California, Berkley. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Zoology from Berkley in 1989, as well as a M.A. and Ph. D. in Anthropology from Berkley in 1991 and 1994, respectively. He now works as the Edmund P. Joyce C.S.C. Professor of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame.
Fuentes researches what it means to be human by looking at primate behavior, our ancestral history, and modern human actions. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, wrote or edited 19 books and one three-volume encyclopedia, and conducted extensive research across the globe. His current investigations include the impact of creativity and imagination in human evolution, multi-species anthropology, evolutionary theory, and the institutions of race and racism.
