This diagram presents the redistribution of body fluids during weightlessness of space exploration. On Earth, fluids are accumulated in the lower half of the body due to gravity (1). Once outside of Earth’s atmosphere, body fluids are moved towards the chest (2). Eventually, there is a gradual redistribution of these fluids (3). Upon returning to Earth, body fluids are pulled back down towards the legs due to gravity, but there is a higher accumulation of fluid in the legs due to the adjustments that took place in space (4).
